This might not look like much, but it’s a huge milestone for me!
Until now, the “materials” I’ve been using in the game (the images that define color, shine, and texture) have been very simple and applied directly to the whole model.
Recently, I started learning Substance Painter, a tool that lets me create “smart material” layers to control how materials affect different parts of a model. I’ve been practicing bringing these into the game.
The can in the picture is a basic example, but the same process can be used to make things look more realistic—like adding rust and dust to a metal beam to make it feel more worn and lived-in!
